Today a new study has been presented as HFFA Research Paper 03/2015. This research paper is considered an update within our multi-annual project aiming at continuously measuring the virtual agricultural land trade as well as the agricultural self-sufficiency of the EU. It is based on a peer-reviewed scientific methodology and most recent agricultural trade and food balance data. Presently, the EU is net importing a still remarkable amount of virtual agricultural land of close to 18 million ha. Accordingly, the EU’s agricultural self-sufficiency is at around 89 percent.
