Which climate change adaptation measures in Egypt are most cost-efficient?

We are now collaborating with the International Climate Initiative (IKI) in their project “Political dialogue and knowledge management on low emission strategies in the MENA region”.

The project’s objective is to support the partner countries in identifying and implementing suitable political instruments to reach their national climate change targets for certain sub-sectors. We will take part in a stocktaking mission in Cairo (Egypt) to carry out a cost-benefit-analysis of adaptation measures to climate change. Together with the Egyptian stakeholders we will assess and rate existing and planned adaptation measures. Egypt is considered as highly vulnerable to climate change even though it has a comparably low contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. We are looking forward to participate in the development of a strategies and next steps for conducting further comprehensive studies.

How can the agricultural sector in Lithuania improve biodiversity conservation?

We won a tender for an EU expert study with the object of providing an overview on EU best practices on innovative agri-environmental measures. This tender is organized within the framework of the project “Optimizing the management of Natura2000 network in Lithuania”. It is financed by the Republic of Lithuania and the EU@LIFE Programme, which is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action. We will review and analyze best practice experiences of agri-environmental measures with respect to biodiversity conservation from other EU Member States. Subsequently we will draft recommendations for the agricultural sector to improve biodiversity conservation in Lithuania. For this project we will closely cooperate with the Baltic Environmental Forum. We are looking forward to innovative findings as well as outcome-driven recommendations.
